How to add a Discord server to get community management recommendations?

Today I have great news for you! We recently added support for communities working on Discord. (Yay!) In this post, I’ll tell you how to add your Discord server to our system for analysis and recommendations on how to effectively grow your community.

How to start receiving reports and recommendations for your Discord community?

1. Add our “Practical CM Data Source” to your server

The first step is to make our platform to get your community data for analysis. For that you need to add our bot to your server. To do this, follow the link below:

https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=1423950546540429372&permissions=65536&integration_type=0&scope=bot

After adding the bot, please ensure you assign it the administrator role. This is necessary to view all channels in the community, including private ones. The bot itself only needs read access to the channel’s message history.

2. Get your community’s Server ID on Discord

The next step is to get your server’s unique identifier (Server ID). This Discord blog post explains how to do this.

3. Add your community to our platform

Once you know your Server ID, go to the “My Communities” section in the app. If you don’t already have an account, create one. Here are instructions on how to do this. Select “Add a new community.” In the form that opens, select the “Discord” community type. In the Discord Server ID field that appears, enter your server ID obtained in the previous step. Click “Save.”

Congratulations! All is set!

Once you click “save”, our platform will send a request to the crawler to collect data. After a short while, you’ll receive the first reports and recommendations for your community.

I’d like to emphasize that it’s crucial to add the bot to your server (step 1) before adding your community to our platform. If the bot isn’t added or doesn’t have the correct role that allows it to read channels, the system won’t allow you to add your community for analysis.

Most of the forum metrics and reports also work for chats (including Discord). So right now you are able to access a wealth of analytical information about your Discord community. However, we’re still in development. If you have any questions or encounter any issues, please email me at nicolas.chabanovsky@gmail.com. We’d also love to hear your feedback and implement new metrics, reports, or integration with other bots that automate your team’s work with the community. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
