Leave To Start Monthly Ratio
The ratio of users who leave the community to those who start acting. This metric helps evaluate the basic health of the community. The lower it is the better (less people leave the community than join.) The value of one or above indicates that there are issues with onboarding and engagement.
Question answered by the metric
What is the ratio of users who leave the community out of those who start participating?
Steps to measure
- Count the unique users who performed their first action on the platform during the selected month.
- Count the unique users who performed their final action on the platform during the selected month.
- Divide the number of users who left by the number of users who started over the given month.
Interpretation
The lower the value of the metric, the more effective the community building initiatives were during the period. If the value of the metric is equal to one, then the number of those who leave and those who start acting is equal. In this case, one needs to pay attention to the average duration of participation and the average number of posts. Most likely, users start acting in the community and immediately leave, which indicates problems with engagement. Any value greater than one signals about serious problems in the community.
